Message from Chairman of KAN
Dear APLAC Delegates and Colleagues,
It is my great honor that Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) - Indonesia will host the 15th APLAC General Assembly and Technical Meetings which will be held in Bali, Indonesia on 05 to 11 December 2009. I warmly welcome all APLAC Delegates and Colleagues to this very important meeting.
Historically, signing of the APLAC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was done in Jakarta - Indonesia in April 1995 by representatives from 16 economies in the Asia Pacific region following the first initiative agreed in 1992 to establish a cooperation among laboratory accreditation bodies as a forum for laboratory accreditation bodies in the Asia Pacific region. KAN is now very proud to host for the second time of the APLAC meeting.
Having been existing for almost 15 years, APLAC has been contributing to the region by providing a mean to establish cross-border stakeholder confidence in the reports and certificates issued by accredited organizations, particularly laboratory and inspection body. This is in line with the recognition by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to APLAC as one of Specialist Regional Bodies (SRBs) that support the work of the APEC Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance at which standard and conformity assessment related to trade are negotiated among APEC Members.
I fully believe that APLAC will keep on ensuring the competence of each members as well as its accredited organizations as strongly demanded by all stakeholders. In addition, I also believe that, from time to time, trust is consistently built by accreditation activities.
Once again, I warmly welcome all APLAC Delegates and Colleagues to Bali - Indonesia, one of the most beautiful island in the world, to have a fruitful meeting and unforgettable stay in Bali.
Yours sincerely,
DR. Bambang Setiadi
Chairman of KAN
